Covid-Safe Management Plan

WBA has extensively reviewed Basketball Victoria's Return to Sport Guidelines and will be implementing the following changes:

Entry and Exit Procedures

Arrival and Departure Procedures

New Scoring Rules and Information

Waverley Facility Tour

Are Face Masks Mandatory?

YES - Parents, staff, volunteers, team officials must wear a mask at all times.

Players must wear a mask to enter and exit the venues, but do not need to wear a mask during games (they may do so at their discretion)

Referees must wear a mask to enter and exit the venues, but do not need to wear a face mask during games (they may do so at their discretion)

BSOs will be ensuring all new procedures are followed at all venues, assisting with CovidComply check in for visitors, assisting with cleaning requirements and adhering to all other tasks found HERE

All WBA Staff, Supervisors, BSO's and Volunteers must have completed the COVID-19 Infection Control Training

Social Distancing measures will be enforced at all venues with the assistance of BSO's and strategically placed signage for seating and capacity requirements.

Hand Sanitising stations are available at all venues on all courts, as well as the foyers and entries.

Schedules will be extended to 60 minutes to allow for a 20 minute break between games.  Timing Rules will remain as two x 18 minute halves.

BSO's and WBA Officials will follow strict cleaning protocols between every game time, including the sanitisation of all equipment.

Capacity limits for players, coaches, scorers and spectators will be set by the Basketball Victoria, once confirmed with the Government and DHHS.  'Orange 20' will not allow for spectators, and  'Orange 50' refers to a maximum of 50 persons per court.  Please see Basketball Victoria's Return to Sport Guidelines for more information.

Basketballs will no longer be allowed inside any Waverley run facilities.  Team warm up balls and game balls will be provided at each venue.

The WBA canteen and public water fountains, vending machine, and referees room will be closed until further notice.

Shaking of hands and high fives will now be banned from all competition and venues.

Thank you for your support and understanding of the new return to sport conditions. Please remember to stretch and warm up prior to your game or training.  A number of other sports that have returned around the country have reported higher than average injury rates. Please look after yourselves and share this information with your teammates.

What is WBA’s current stance in the sporting landscape?

WBA continues to adhere to recommendations made by Basketball Victoria. From Friday 13th of March 2020, in line with the Victorian Government’s State of Emergency declaration, all basketball related activities and programs have been suspended.  We will continue to update our members if any changes occur.

This decision has not been made lightly and we understand the disappointment this will bring many people. However, our top priority remains to be the health, safety and well-being of WBA members and the wider community.

Is the WBA office open?

WBA offices are closed until further notice. This is in line with the Victoria Government’s closure of “non-essential public venues”. Management can still be contacted via email during this time.

When will the next season commence?

Unfortunately, WBA do not yet have a confirmed return date for return of junior and senior sport in Victoria.  We trust that you will understand the difficult position we currently face and understand that our top priority remains to be our members health and wellbeing.  A number of models have been presented and can be found in 'Playing Dates' for junior and senior competition information.

What's happening with the Falcons?

Basketball Victoria has unfortunately confirmed the following competitions have been cancelled:  The regular season of the 2019/2020 VJBL competition, and the NBL1 and Big V competitions

WBA anticipate a return to sport in the near future, and will advertise the tryout dates for the VJBL 2021 season as soon as possible.

When can we return to training?

WBA will not be organizing any official trainings at this time.  We anticipate the facility will be open for bookings over the summer period and more information will be advertised once the governement announces more lifting of restrictions.  Casual shooting will not be available for quite some time.
